Man who brought Prithivi Raj Chauhan’s ashes by ditching TalibanSeptember 25, 2018
India is a unique country with folding many peculiar facts. Indians love each other; hate each other sometimes for no reasons whatsoever. Sometimes they unite like a solid rock and sometimes they fight like born enemies. The caste system made Indian society very complex and caste-pride matters a lot in the South Asian nation. However, the modern cosmopolitan society is contrasting the caste factor.
Meanwhile, the caste system bred many violent but interesting stories. These stories have some notable characters. One of them is Sher Singh Rana who was convicted in the Phoolan Devi murder case.
The murderer of then Samajwadi Party MP and former bandit Phoolan Devi had a very filmy character who can do anything. His life carries all filmy elements. Rana had claimed that he killed the Devi in 2001 to avenge the infamous massacre of Thakurs by her.
He surrendered himself after shooting dead the former dacoit. But after 3 years, Rana escaped from the high profile Tihar jail. His escape from the jail was in a Bollywood movie style. His men came in police uniform and took him from the jail with the permission of authorities. Again he was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police at Dharamtalla in Kolkata in 2006.
This time, he surprised everyone by claiming that after escaping from the jail he went then Taliban and now Afghanistan to bring the ashes of Rajput King Prithvi Raj Chauhan back to India. He detailed his thrilling mission in his book Jail Diary: Tihar Se Kabul-Kandahar Tak.
He claimed that he brought relics and sand from the king’s grave in Ghazni and also had a memorial built in Etawah in UP.
He wrote in the book that he got a fake passport from Ranchi and flew to Afghanistan on a student visa in early 2005. Subhash Thakur, whom he had first met in Tihar jail, financed his plan. During his three-month stay in Afghanistan, he found Prithviraj Chauhan’s tomb and convinced locals that he had come from Pakistan to restore Ghori’s tomb.
Rana came to India with the ‘ashes‘ and sent it to Etawah where his family members made a temple of Prithvi Raj Chauhan in 2005. He had also filmed his entire venture in Afghanistan which can be watched on YouTube.
Meanwhile, his claims are yet to be examined and proved by the authorities, however, if he is true, his courage cannot be ignored.
